Oscar Winner

February 26, 2008 · 2 Comments

Satisfying Oscar results! Daniel Day-Lewis is my favorite actor of all time, I became Javier Bardem’s fan after watching Mar Adentro, and the first time watching La Vie En Rose, i knew Marrion Cotillard is gonna win the Oscar.

Did you notice that none of them are American?

The Man Without A Past/Mies vailla menneisyyttä (2002)

Let’s take a brief look at one of the forgotten best film ever made. I’ve never seen lots of Aki Kaurismäki’s work. Only this one and his latest, Lights in the Dusk/Laitakaupungin valot (2006). But he soon become one of my favorite filmmaker. Well, at least I like the last two.

What I really love about his film: the passiveness of the characters, soft rock ‘n’ roll music, and of course the beautiful shot, it’s like painting. Take a look at this screen capture from The Man Without A Past.

Criterion Collection and stuff

February 19, 2008 · 1 Comment

After months of collecting grindhouse DVD, i decided to start to collect some “more mainstream” DVD.

It’s all start with this cool Criterion packaging of The Last Emperor box-set.

All my life, I’ve only seen this beautifully cinematographed movie through crappy pan & scan television version or Artisan releasing. But this version has a very cool restoration like Criterion always did, and also in widescreen. You can see how it’s like here.

And through browsing, I also find this cool pic of Criterion’s Seven Samurai .

My oh my, they even said that this one has a far better picture quality than the previous Criterion release of the same title. That’s kinda cool, because this film doesn’t have its negative anymore. Click here for more information.

It’s kinda shitty that Criterion sell their stuff with very expensive price. But it’s really worth it.
